Pearl Goes to Preschool

Pearl loves attending dance classes at her mother’s ballet school. Even though Pearl is the youngest and smallest ballerina, she knows how to count her poses and follow along. When her mom suggests that Pearl try going to preschool, Pearl has a lot of questions: What will she learn? Will there be dancing? A sweet and reassuring story about trying something new that’s perfect for young children with separation anxiety — or who just love to dance!

My Wild Cat by Isabelle Simler

The talented Isabelle Simler has written a simple, informative book about a cat and cats in general. Her scratchy, handsome (digital?) ink-work give fur and fabric a textural feel.

With one sentence or partial sentence per spread, the book is a perfect read aloud for the very young. Footnotes add fascinating facts, such as a "cat can run 100 meters in only 9 seconds––faster than any human on record."

In the end we see the cat waiting patiently, then playfully pouncing on the narrator. Written with affection and insight, My Wild Cat is a delightful book for all ages.

THANK YOU! by Charo Pita, Illustrated by Anuska Allepuz

Illustrator Anuska Allepuz has an eye for graphic design. Many of the spreads in Thank You! have a color theme. Some are cool blue or purple, and the last spread is yellow for contrast.

The landscapes feel expansive, while the expressive faces of a grandma and her granddaughter feel intimate.

The granddaughter asks the big questions.  "Why does the sea stop at the sand,” “...what holds the moon up so it doesn’t fall out of the sky?” Grandma can’t explain why the world works the way it does. But she knows “what we have to do with all of these mysteries.”

Thank You! is a simple and profound story about appreciating your world and the people in it.
