Scout's Heaven

I've had this book for awhile now (thank you, Eerdmans) and have just gotten around to reading it.

I love its style, its humor and sophisticated flat color illustration. Many of the illustrations are large black silhouettes of Scout, the beloved family pet.

The story is simple. Scout has died and three siblings talk about where Scout is now. They decide that Scout is both on (in) earth and in heaven. It's told in first person by an older sibling.  As they bury Scout, the youngest, Little Brother, has questions and a keen sensitivity to what Scout might need in heaven. 

The matter of fact storytelling makes this a very moving little book. A gem.
