Born in 1917, American writer, painter and children's book illustrator Dahlov Ipcar has been making art over a period spanning two centuries. In 1939, she had her first solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. She started her children's illustration career in 1945, creating pictures for author Margaret Wise Brown's 'The Little Fisherman', and has continued illustrating and writing another thirty books.
