MY STINKY SUMMER BY S. BUG

MY STINKY SUMMER BY S. BUG

by Paul Meisel

Hilarious and scientifically accurate, this Nature Diary gives readers a bug’s-eye-view of the life cycle of a stinkbug.

Told in diary form, My Stinky Summer by S. Bug introduces readers to the stinkbug’s life cycle and survival habits.

From the day he is born, S. Bug hears the same refrain–“Ew! Stinkbug!” The stinkbug’s odor is powerful protection against from predators. Perhaps too powerful. Readers will also learn about the challenges that arise when an ecosystem is pushed off-balance.

Children will love poring over the bright, highly detailed illustrations and pondering ideas about ecosystems and nature.

The book includes a glossary and further information in the back of the book. Both art and text have been vetted for accuracy by an expert. (Description from the publisher)

With an author's note about "What is poop?" and fun facts about the animals featured in this book.  (Description from the publisher)

I See A Cat, a Holiday House I Like To Read book, was named a 2018 ALSC Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor winner by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association. Coco, our energetic labradoodle, was the inspiration for I See A Cat as well as See Me Run, a 2012 ALSC Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor winner. Like most dogs, Coco likes to chase squirrels, dig in the yard, go on long walks, chase balls, and run!

I'm the author/illustrator of ten books, with more on the way. My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis (Holiday House) was published in February 2017. Here's a link to a review in the New York Times Book Review.  AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prizes named My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis as a 2018 finalist for best books of the year in the Children's Science Picture Books category. My Happy Year by E. Bluebird, the second book in A Nature Diary series, was published in March of 2019.

To date I have illustrated more than 70 books, including early readers, picture books, eight books in the HarperCollins Let's-Read-And-Find-Out Science series, and a number of mass market books. Published in March of 2017 were two books written by my son, Peter, and illustrated by me; Stinky Spike The Pirate Dog and Stinky Spike And The Royal Rescue. They're about a hilarious stinky dog named Spike who becomes a pirate and helps Captain Fishbeard and his bumbling crew sniff out treasure. They're part of the new Read & Bloom series from Bloomsbury.

I graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Wesleyan University and an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale. My Junior year was spent in Rome at the Tyler School of Art.

In addition to children's trade work I also do editorial, educational and advertising illustration. I worked for a number of years doing editorial illustration for The New York Times, New York Magazine, the Harvard Business Review, American Girl and many other publications. I work digitally and traditionally.
